The current issue (Vol. 7; Issue 2) is an exciting blend of Perspectives, Review article and Original research articles. It is both an exciting and challenging time for Psychiatry and Psychiatrist in Tamil Nadu. The challenges brought on to our profession by the MHCA, 2017 and its implementation is being widely discussed and deliberated to make this not only a right based act for the sufferers and carers, but also practical for the good‐natured Psychiatrists of Tamil Nadu, who care for both of them. The SMHA and TN‐IPS are working closely to iron out the rough edges of the rules and regulations.

The other area of concern is the privatisation of the public health delivery system, of which Tamil Nadu has been a pioneer. Any PPP model must not come at the cost of the Public Institutions, especially like the Institution of Mental Health (IMH), Chennai, that is doing yeomen service to the poor and the downtrodden who suffer from mental illness. This MUST continue, with IMH and the proposed TNIMHANS becoming a guiding light for all other institutions in Tamil Nadu and India. This can only be achieved by IMH taking this opportunity to reinvent itself and becoming the true leader, both in policies and processes, there‐by negating the harsh comments by vested interests. All that is needed is some introspection, united efforts and more hard & smart work. Only data and research out‐puts will be the bulwark against such constant onslaught of negative tides. True Data never lies.

A great milestone in the annals of TN‐IPS was achieved with the inauguration Prof. O. Somasundaram TN‐IPS House at Kilpauk, Chennai. Now our Tamil Nadu State Journal, IJMHNS has a permanent address! A fully functional office there will go a long way to improve the journal. It will also function as a repository of all our publications.

The quality of any journal is determined by the enthusiastic authors, the erudite peer reviewers and the readers. We are happy to add Dr. Sabari Sridhar, Dr. Kailash, Dr. Aswath Babu, Dr. Ramya Rachel, Dr. Aruna Kaki from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Sai Krishna Tikka, Dr. Raj Kiran Donthu from AP/Telangana and others as Reviewers of our fast‐growing journal.

There remains a lot to be done and achieved by our journal. Hopefully someday soon, we hope to make IJMHNS one of its kind reputed and indexed journal in Psychiatry and Mental Health in India.
